Who he
is? Linus Benedict Torvalds was born on December 28, 1963 in
Helsinki, Finland. He is Finnish American Software engineer currently residing
in Portland, Oregon united states. He is the founder of popular open source
operating system called as “Linux”. Linux serves as a foundation for most of
the operating system Android is one of the operating system that is using Linux
kernels.
Academics:
Linus Torvalds finished his master
degree in computer science at the University of Helsinki.
Linus
Torvalds got his honorary Doctor status from the Stockholm University and the
same form the University of Helsinki as well.
Connection
with Linux:
After finishing his graduation he
joined in a firm after that he worked there up to June 2003 and then joined
Open Source Development Labs where he started working on Linux based on UNIX.
His own mascot is Penguin called as “Tux” which is accepted by Linux community
as their mascot.
Achievements:

On
April 23, 2012 at Internet Society's Global INET conference in Geneva,
Switzerland, Torvalds was one of the inaugural inductees into the Internet
Hall of Fame, one of ten in the Innovators category and thirty-three
overall inductees.
· On April 20, 2012 he won the Millennium
Technology prize note that it is equivalent to Nobel Prize in Technology
fields.
· In 1998 Torvalds received an EFF
Pioneer Award.
· In 2000 he was awarded the Lovelace
Medal from the British Computer Society.
· In 2001, he shared the Takeda
Award for Social/Economic Well-Being
· In 2008, he was inducted into the
Hall of Fellows of the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.
· He was awarded the C&C Prize
by the NEC Corporation in 2010 for "contributions to the advancement of
the information technology industry, education, research, and the improvement
of our lives"
· In 2005 he won the Vollum Award
from the Reed College.
