OS "X" of the Month - April month post

OS "X" of the month - The "super man" of Mobile OS

Hello to everyone, OS “X” of this month is a Mobile OS. Now-a-days mobiles are mesmerizing the young ones in the world, such mobiles are operated by a super OS. I think you may have guessed it by now. Yes! It is Android rocking the world with a share of 81.1% highest of its type (Mobile platforms). Behind the victory of Android there is a reason that is Android is open source software which means it can be modified by anyone and its source can be viewed by everyone. My favorite is also android, even though I am a great fan of Steve jobs. Android, Inc. was founded in Pa lo Alto, California in October 2003 by Andy Rubin (co-founder of Danger),Rich Miner (co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.), Nick Sears(once VP at T-Mobile), and Chris White (headed design and interface development at Web TV) .The early intentions of the company were to develop an advanced operating system for digital cameras, when it was realized that the market for the devices was not large enough, and diverted their efforts to producing a smartphone operating system to rival those of Symbian and Windows Mobile (Apple's iPhone had not been released at the time). First Android powered phone was HTC one released on October 2007. Android has a wide range of applications. The operating system's success has made it a target for patent litigation as part of the so-called "smartphone wars" between technology companies. As of May 2013, 48 billion apps have been installed from the Google Play store and as of September 3, 2013, there have been 1 billion Android devices activated Today there are 1.5 million android apps and there thousands and hundreds of mobile devices that support Android OS. Android Tablets are also in market. In July 2013 there were 11,868 different models of Android device, scores of screen sizes and eight OS versions simultaneously in use. Android is a UNIX like operating system, works with monolithic kernel (modified Linux kernel). Android has a good user Interface (UI).Android’s interface is based on the touch screen input. Android supports ARM, x 86, MIPS architecture. Google acquired Android Inc. on August 17, 2005, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Google. Key employees of Android Inc., including Rubin, Miner and White, stayed at the company after the acquisition. Not much was known about Android Inc. at the time, but many assumed that Google was planning to enter the mobile phone market with this move. Android has several version of operating system released till date their release date and version names are as follows:
